VTOL Sail wing (Internal working title: Mulldrifter)
Mulldrifter is CEI’s newest UAS platform, capable of 1-2 hour flight times depending on load, conditions, and power usage. This platform is built wit VTOL in mind, utilizing a lightweight frame and coaxial motors for reliable takeoff and landings depending on the mission. The longer sail-wing design of the wings allows us to maximize our lift to stay in the air longer during horizontal flight and carry heavier sensor packages/payloads for testing/work. Our platform also utilizes a 2.4GHz data stream on an experimental antenna array which allows us to send and receive telemetry, video data, and sensor information in almost all environments. This unit also contains homing software and a backup 900MHZ control system to ensure drone recovery. The tail and body of the drone have completely modular mounting panels that allow the operator to attach new testing equipment and payload packages for different missions. Also, if the operator wishes to fly in a pattern or a specified path, Mulldrifter comes equipped with hardware that will allow it to fly completely autonomously based on the commands pre-set in Q-Ground Control or Mission Planner.
